The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council (DEIC) held a hybrid in-person and virtual event to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month on June 28, the 53rd anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. A presentation by TESU employee and DEIC member, Thomas “TJ” Branin, included information retrieved from peer reviewed articles and the collection of works within The Stonewall Readers: accounts, diaries, periodic literature and articles from the New York Public Library. Branin provided a summarization of the events of the Stonewall Uprising, some of the key individuals that participated in the uprising, why this uprising is the most known of the LGBTQIA+ demonstrations and how it influenced the pride that is celebrated every June.
